Welcome to theCurtis National Hand Center

Since 1975, people all over the world have placed their hands in ours – The Curtis National Hand Center.

Founded by Dr. Raymond Curtis in 1975, The Curtis National Hand Center has grown to be the largest hand center in the world with 14 surgeons, a prominent fellowship program, a complete research department and association with the largest hand rehabilitation center in the nation.

The center cares for patients from all over the country and many international patients who seek treatment for a wide variety of problems and injuries that affect the function of the hand and upper extremity. From repairing traumatic injuries to treating repetitive motion injuries, arthritic conditions and congenital differences, our goal is to restore the patient’s use of the hand, wrist, arm, elbow and shoulder to the greatest degree possible.

The same level of commitment to serving patients is reflected in the Center’s dedication to teaching the future generations of leaders in our field. Established in 1978, our hand fellowship program is the most prestigious and respected in the country. Each year, an elite class of physicians who have completed their primary training in orthopedic, plastic or general surgery receives world-class training with the opportunity to treat challenging cases, perform cutting-edge research and collaborate with faculty and alumni.

The Center also serves as the training center for residents and medical students from Johns Hopkins, Georgetown, Union Memorial Hospital and Walter Reed Army Hospital, and entertains visitors from all over the world.

In addition, the Curtis National Hand Center places a premium on the medical education of colleagues and the public. The Center hosts a lecture series that ensures we give back to our specialty and advance the surgical sciences. Lastly, the Center has developed teaching laboratories and maintains an editorial staff that shares our knowledge with colleagues locally, regionally and nationally.

With our long history of experienceoutstanding medical staff, and state-of-the-art treatment and research facilities, The Curtis National Hand Center is the premier choice for physicians looking to advance their knowledge and skills in hand and upper-extremity surgery.
